The Koch is designed to offer more sound versatility than the standard 10-hole diatonic model. When pushed, the slide button raises each pitch by one half step, making it possible to play a wider range of notes than available on typical Marine Band style tuning. The reed plates are valveless, allowing usual diatonic techniques such as note bending to be employed.
