The cabasa is a hand-held rhythmic instrument that belongs to the idiophone family, as the sound is produced by the movement of the instrument itself. It consists of a handle and a cylindrical body wrapped with a chain of small metal beads. Sound is created by rotating or shaking the cabasa, causing the beads to rub against the surface of the cylinder and produce a distinctive shimmering, rhythmic sound.
